The Sculptor's Note: When sculpting jades I usually do not have a specific form in mind. I start by removing areas of the stone that obviously do not belong to the finished work. These areas may have undesirable impurities or just do not look in proportion to the stone. Then the stone starts to take form and guides me as to the shape it wants to become. Shortly after I am just there just for the ride as the stone has spoken its shape and my job is simply to remove what does not belong to the sculpture. Jade is harder than steel so I use diamond tools to massage the jades into shape. Thank you for visiting, David R. Clayton
